Chief/Dr. Greg Fonsah – University of Georgia

The Cameroon Professional Society, CPS, is proud to recognize Chief/Dr. Greg Fonsah, an exemplary Cameroonian professional.

Chief/Dr. Fonsah is an Associate Professor and Extension Economist in the Department of Agriculture & Applied Economics, College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, University of Georgia, Tifton Campus, Georgia, USA.  As an extension economist, his statewide responsibilities include: Farm management, Production Economics, Agricultural Marketing and Consumer Demand, Agribusiness Management, International Trade and Policy of fruits and vegetables.  He also educates and assists in transferring new and innovated technologies to students, Agribusiness Companies, large, medium and limited resource farmers producing fruits, vegetables and other specialty crops in the state of Georgia in particular and the USA at large. He is currently a Director at the Food Distribution Research Society (FDRS) and had also served as Newsletter Editor for the Society.  He has also served as book reviewer for major U.S. and Foreign Publishing Houses, and has reviewed over 4 dozen articles for publication from top Economic Associations such as the American Journal of Agricultural Economics (AJAE); The American Agricultural Economics Association (AAEA);  The American Society for Horticultural Science Journal (ASHA) just to name a few.

In the past 11 years Chief Dr. Fonsah has won 11 Awards for his work around the world and in the USA.  As recent as June 2011, one of his publication entitled “Economic Analysis of Producing Southern Highbush Blueberries in Soil in Georgia”, was ranked top publication in the college of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at UGA while in 2008, his work entitled “Evaluation of Commercial Banana Cultivars in Southern Georgia for Ornamental and Nursery Production” was ranked top 10 articles read in June by the American Society of Horticultural Science Journal.  In 2009 he won the prestigious International Sigma Xi Award for Creative Research.  In 2006 he won the United States President George Bush’s Volunteer Service Award for successfully dedicating at least 2 years or 4,000 hours to serve others at home or abroad.  In 2007 and 2008 two of his publications won the Blue Ribbon Extension Communication Award (1st place) respectively.  In 2006 one of his students won the Outstanding Master’s Thesis Award from the Southern Agricultural Economics Association.

Dr. Fonsah obtained his B.S. in Business Management from Berea College, Kentucky; an MBA (Masters in Business Administration) from Morehead State University, Kentucky; an MS in Agricultural Economics from the University of Kentucky and Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria, West Africa respectively.
